Water and Energy

The developer is conscious of the water scarcity we experience in the Western Cape and how consumer behaviour will need to change in future. Homeowners are encouraged to treat municipal drinking water accordingly and two boreholes on site will be used to water the common landscaped areas, which will be planted in indigenous vegetation in accordance with the Landscaping Guidelines.

Conscious of the energy footprint associated with the development, and also the increasing cost of utilities, houses have been designed to surpass the latest energy requirements of 
the updated Building Regulations with a combination of both passive and active energy saving measures. These not only increase comfort levels, but reduce energy consumption and the related monthly costs – typical examples include passive solar shading, additional underslab and roof insulation, LED lights and solar geysers and these are standard in every Applegarth home.

Rainwater harvesting and grey water systems, heat pumps and other state of the art water heating packages, as well photovoltaic energy sources are available as optional extras and purchasers are encouraged to make use of these technologies.
